Concessions
We run the concession stands during all the home football games on Friday nights. We need 21 people to staff the concession stands for each game. People are needed to cook, staff the large and small concession stands, the pizza wagon, the water wagon, and any other wagon or booth. Every band booster is expected to work at least two games. Because half-time is the busiest we watch the marching band show at away games. Operating the concession stands is one of the fundraisers for the band program.
Choo Choo M B Classic
The Choo Choo Classic is an all-day band competition hosted at HHS by the boosters and is one of our major fundraisers. Bands from around the region perform their marching routine and compete for trophies. Scholarships are offered if funds are available. Many musicians, band directors and fans attend this event. Every booster is expected to work one five-hour shift on the day of the competition. All band students are required to help during the competition and then perform an exhibition performance at the end of the day. Please see the volunteer sign-up form for specific areas where you can help.
Wrapping Booth
The band boosters have wrapped holiday gifts at Northgate Mall for about 20 years. This is another major fundraiser for the band. The booth is open during mall hours from the day after Thanksgiving through closing on Christmas Eve. Two people are needed to staff the booth at all times, but more are necessary as the season progresses. Every band family is required to work five shifts. Any family member may work for a student - parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. Additionally, each student is required to work two shifts. One of the shifts for all volunteers must be during the last week of operation. Help is also needed to transport, set-up and take down the modular booth.
Ways & Means
This committee works on developing new ideas for fundraising. In the past we have had Coke sales, car washes, candle sales, and a yard sale. They also help solicit donations for the Choo Choo Classic. We are always open to any fundraising suggestion.
Chaperones
Four to six chaperones are needed for each away game and all competitions. Couples are encouraged because we especially need men in this area.
Equipment (Pit Crew)
Two people are needed to secure and drive a rental truck for each away event. A team of 4-6 people is needed to help with the pit instruments and color guard items for every performance.
Hospitality
Refreshments are provided for several events during the year: end of band camp, Choo Choo hospitality room, concerts, Awards Banquet, etc. Boosters are asked to provide and serve food.
Web Site
www.hixsonband.org is the place to go for up-to-date information for all band activities. While most information is available on the opening page, please log-in as a registered user so that you may access all available options. Anyone who is a registered user can post news items, articles and photos. We are always looking for more photos to use on the web site.
Uniforms
People are needed to keep our uniforms fresh and clean. Just wash, dry and hang.
Homecoming Parade
A few people are needed to set up and remove the orange cones used during the parade. The parade route is Goldbond to HHS.
